The year’s first cherry blossom blooms in Seoul were observed on Monday.

The Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA) announced that this year’s blooms came a week later than last year but a week earlier than the average from 1990 to 2020.

March 24, 2021 was the earliest date when cherry blossoms were first spotted in the capital since 1922, when data on cherry blossom blooms began to be compiled.

The KMA considers cherry blossoms starting to bloom when at least three flowers are detected on a branch of a designated tree at a KMA weather station located in Seoul’s Jongno District.
