NMIXX previously went viral for their performance at a university festival when the backing track suddenly cut off.  The video of them continuing their performance soon gained over 2 million views.

They received high praise for their vocal skills, especially amidst criticism against idols for being unable to perform live.

While reaction then was absolutely positive, their group’s latest viral moment is not going over so well. At a recent performance at Ajou University, Lily forgot to bring her microphone to the stage. She quickly borrowed Bae‘s microphone for her part before returning it right after.

While fans praised her for her professionalism, others grew suspicious. Could the moment have been staged?

The previously mentioned acapella performance had turned out to be staged by the girls’ company. It was admitted through an official statement that they had arranged for the music to be cut off to raise the mood at the festival, although they claimed the girls did not know about it.

“Hello, this is SQU4D.

In order to heat up the atmosphere of the show, we agreed with the university to stage a malfunction with the backtrack as an event.

However, in order to create a natural setting, we did not let the NMIXX members know about this beforehand.

We apologize for the discomfort guests and fans felt through this performance and will work hard so that this will not happen again in the future. Thank you to everyone who supported the group at the festival and we apologize once again. Thank you.”

Although fans seem to be turning it into a meme…

…other netizens are critical about the situation.
